Grumpy Old Man?

Wed. March 21, 2007: Well we enter into the first day of Spring, and for me, it would not be such a day if I did not hear a little Christmas music. Of course I did when I turned on TBS at 11:00 p.m. only to see the classic movie “Grumpy Old Men”. For those who haven’t seen it, the movie is set in the cold Minnesota winter. On this night however, it was not the Christmas music which stirred my thoughts, instead it was the two senile old men. I began wondering what I will be like at 75. It should be a smooth transition, i.e. my journey into senility. I made an attempt to see which character I most closely associated with. Max (Walter Matheau) has a comeback for everything, edgy, mean, and of course crazy; while John (Jack Lemmon) is sweet, kind, and of course crazy. Score 1 for Max. Max likes hockey while John likes classical music. Score 2 for Max. Max hasn’t a clue with the ladies, John is smooth. We have a winner. I guess I most closely identify with Max. Of course this makes me think, do I really have to turn into this? Not necessarily, maybe I should be nicer to people, branch out a little.
